Thought for the week of 9th April 2023

Go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has been raised from the dead,[b] and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.” This is my message for you.’ Matthew 28 : 7

This week’s reading : Matthew 28 : 1 - 10

Thought for the week

Matthew’s account of Jesus’ resurrection is truly dramatic. Within a few words an earthquake, an angel like lightening, the stone rolled away, and a message, “He is not here, for He has been raised”.

So often we use many words. Reports are written that amount to hundreds of pages. Technology produces reams of paper. Words, numbers, tables. Social media alone involves millions of words each day.

Yet for the greatest day in history. For the most earth shattering event. For the day that changed all our lives, and the news is still ringing around the earth, few words are actually needed. Jesus is Risen from the dead. He has conquered sin and death. He offers eternal life to all who believe and trust in Him.

We can put our trust in Jesus, because so few words are needed to testify to the power of the Lord’s love and new life in Him. The Lord’s greatest gift to us.

This is the truth of who Jesus is, who has broken through all that is disruptive, troubling, even destructive in our lives, to bring us new life, even eternal life.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Who gave His life that we may have Life. He is Risen indeed. Allleluia!

Rev Paul

Prayer for today

Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty resurrection of your Son overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him:

grant that we, being dead to sin and alive to you in Jesus Christ, may reign with him in glory;

to whom with you and the Holy Spirit be praise and honour, glory and might, now and in all eternity, Amen
