Prayer Support, Baptisms and Funerals

Prayer Support
"˜Centred in Prayer' has been the name given to a number of on-going projects to encourage one another in prayer. Included in the projects has been the publication of a booklet, "Oulton Broad Prayers", and a number of accompanying prayer leaflets.
One aim of the recently formed Prayer Support Team is to support our regular Healing Services at both churches, which have been successfully re-established as part of regular Sunday worship, alongside the weekly focus at the midweek Holy Communion. Prayer requests (including mission - local and overseas) are shared through a prayer chain, which includes some who are housebound but keen to actively continue their ministry among us.
The Occasional Offices
Baptisms (approx. 30 per annum)
At present families considering baptism are invited to our Focus services. After attending several times there is usually a service of `Thanksgiving' for the child/children; then at a suitable date a service of Holy Baptism is arranged.
Weddings (approx. 10 per annum)
Currently, wedding couples are invited to an informal meeting where they meet clergy, organist and other wedding couples. During this time they may ask questions, discuss music, hymns, order of proceedings, flowers and arrange the time and date of their rehearsal. We follow Diocesan Guidelines for second marriages.
Funerals (approx. 45 per annum)
At the moment, soon after a funeral enquiry, clergy arrange a visit to the house to discuss arrangements, offer help and pray with the bereaved. The majority of funeral services are at Gorleston, in the Crematorium. Some, especially those who have connections with St Mark's or St Luke's are held in church. There is no graveyard at either of our churches so interments are usually at Gorleston, Kirkley or Lowestoft Cemeteries.
Administration within the church
We have a number of committees to assist with the smooth and efficient running of the two churches.
Finance Committee
There are two Treasurers who share the task of keeping the books for St. Mark's and St. Luke's. Two other Church members collect, count and bank all monies on a weekly basis.
When necessary, the Finance Committee meets to discuss specific issues. It is a matter of some pride that we have paid the Parish Share in full for many years, despite increasing costs. Church members who pay tax are encouraged to Gift Aid their donations. Many also covenant regular contributions as a sign of their commitment to supporting the efficient working of the Church.
