What is Baptism?
Thank you for enquiring about a Baptism service, we have created this leaflet to help you decide.
Baptism is much more than a naming ceremony. The 'Catechism' (an official form of teaching by question and answer) in the Prayer Book tells us anyone who is baptised is made a member of Christ, a child of God, and an inheritor of the Kingdom of Heaven. (This is why Baptism is also called 'Christening').
How is this done?
The 'Catechism' tells us Baptism is an 'outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace', as a means whereby we receive the same.
What is the outward and visible sign or form in Baptism?
'Water, wherein the person is baptised 'in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.''
What is the inward and spiritual grace?
'A death unto sin and a new birth into righteousness.
So something very important happens and some serious promises are made. This is why you will be asked, 'Do you turn to Christ?' and 'Do you come to Christ as Saviour?'
We hope we shall see you in church again, so that the children may more readily build on this beginning, come to know Jesus, and live as He wants.
