Castle Acre: St James the Great

Welcome to St James, Castle Acre, the only church on the Peddars Way. The church sits on the village green, between Castle Acre's two main English Heritage attractions - the ruined priory and the castle.

Our church is large and, bright, with many things to see - the 15th century decorated screen and pulpit, the huge font cover (one of the best in Norfolk), the carved beast under the priest's chair, the old skull watching over the altar, to name just a few.

But Castle Acre Church is much more than a tourist attraction. It has a committed congregation, some travelling many miles to attend our Sunday worship.  Its size and welcoming atmosphere also means that St James the Great is an ideal place to host a wedding.

Do pop in, to visit, to light a candle or to attend our services. We would love to meet you.

Castle Acre Church is part of the Nar Valley Benefice.

Safeguarding

Our Benefice is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops' guidance and policies. Each church has its own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Their contact details are available in our churches.

Our Diocese’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact a PSO or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
