Social and Future Events

We enjoy many opportunities to get together for fellowship across the Benefice - in addition to the refreshments we usually share after our services. We look forward to welcoming you to an event soon. These are the categories you will find on this page (some items may feature in more than one place!):

1. Future Events
This list comes from the newsletter and may not contain all events, so please also check the individual sections below.

  • Saturday 20th June - Sacristan Training meeting 3:30pm, Shiplake
  • Sunday 21st June Sacristan Training meeting after 11:00 service, Dunsden

  • Wednesday 24th June - Deanery Synod barbecue, Christchurch, Sonning at 18:30, All are welcome.
  • Thursday 25th June - Bible Study House Group - The Letter to the Hebrews 14:00-16:00 See section 7 below for details.
  • Sunday 28th June - St Peter and St Paul's Patronal Festival, 10am, Shiplake
  • Sunday June 28th - Binfield Heath Open Gardens for 'Bluebells' Charity, 14:00-17:00
  • Tuesday 30th June - Sunday 5th July - Flower Festival, St Mary's Church 9:00- 18:00 
  • Wednesday 1st July - A group of people from St Andrews Church Caversham will conduct and sing Compline with their priest at All Saints, Dunsden, arriving at 6:45 pm for a 7pm start. All are welcome.
  • Wednesday 8th July - Lay Leaders' meeting 11:00, The Ark
  • Thursday 16th July - Shiplake Primary Leavers' Concert
  • Friday 17th July - Shiplake Primary End of year service, Shiplake church
  • Sunday 19th July - Harpsden Patronal, 10am Harpsden, followed by a play and a cake sale. 
  • Wednesday 22nd July - Birthday Lunch, Dunsden at 1 pm. All welcome
  • Tuesday 28th July - HPCC meeting 10:30, Harpsden
  • Thursday 30th July - Bible Study House Group - The Letter to the Hebrews 14:00-16:00 See section 7 below for details.
  • Wednesday 12th August - Community Lunch, 1pm at Henley Golf Course
  • Thursday 20th August - Quiet Day for Lay Leaders, St Mary's Retreat Centre in Wantage

2. Anna Chaplaincy Events
Anna lunches and teas are open to all in their maturity but we also welcome anyone who would value the social interaction it affords. Revd Heather is the Anna Chaplain, assisted by Anna Friends Paul and Valerie. Please see the Anna Chaplaincy page for more information or contact Revd Heather on [email protected] or 07946352026.

Our next Anna Tea is on Wednesday the 24th June at 2.00 pm in Dunsden church. With a slight change to the timings, the get togethers will run from 2.00 - 4.00 pm, with tea being served at 2.30 pm.

The Anna Tea is free to all that attend, thanks to a very generous donation. However, there is a charity box if you so wish to donate. Please book with Revd Heather (details above).

In response to many saying they are celebrating birthday’s in July there will be a birthday lunch on the 22nd July at Dunsden at 1 pm. ALL are welcome, despite when your birthday is! Though for catering purposes please tell Revd Heather if you are coming.

There will be no Anna tea in July but there will be one on the 26th August, as usual at Dunsden.

3. Boys Brunches
Boys Brunches are hosted by Paul, usually every first Monday of the month, 10.30 am - 12 noon, and are for all mature gentlemen who may, or may not, have recently lost a loved one, live alone and would welcome company, like talking, or listening, or just want to chew the cud with a group of sympathetic blokes. Come and join us for tea/coffee and a bite to eat whilst putting the world to rights.

4. Calendar Related or Miscellaneous Events
These special events celebrate particular dates, items in the church calendar or season / nature and can include concerts, get togethers, services and workshops. More details will follow soon.

A wonderful Magical Tea (afternoon tea and magic show) at Shiplake church, 3pm on Sunday 21st June, which is also Father's Day. Please let us know if you are coming, if you can, to help us prepare. This is a free event but donations (of help, money and cake) are very much appreciated. Please see the attached poster or email Vic for more information or to say you are coming.

5. Community Lunches
The Community Lunches are usually self-funded, visit a variety of local establishments and are open to anyone who would like to join us.

Our next Community Lunch will be Wednesday 12th August, 1pm at Henley Golf Course by popular request. All are welcome but you will need to pre order, please contact Revd Heather for the menu and details nearer the time [email protected]

6. Cuppa, Chat and Craft
From March 10th, All Saints, Dunsden will be open every Tuesday afternoon (2.00-4.00) for a cuppa, cake, biscuits and chat. (Please note the change in day and time.)  All are welcome. Should you like to bring along any unfinished crafts to finish yourself or need help to get them completed, we are here for you. Please see the attached poster or contact Yvonne by email for details.

7. Study and Prayer
While not solely social, like many of the other events listed here, we have several groups that share refreshments and fellowship alongside study and prayer. If this is of interest, please see below, as well as the Benefice Bible Study and Benefice Prayer Group pages.

New Bible Study House Group – The Letter to the Hebrews
David and Shelagh will be hosting a new Bible Study House Group at their home on the last Thursday of each month from 2–4pm, beginning Thursday 25th September 2025. Read more here. Email David by clicking here. Upcoming dates for 2025–26 include: 25th June; 30th July; 27th August; 24th September.
