Leicester University was founded in 1921 as a result of generous giving by families of Leicester and Leicestershire to commemorate the fallen in WW1. On November the 9th 2021 wreaths were laid at the memorial inside St Mary's Church by the university on its centenary. Pochin School children laid two hand made wreaths in remembrance. Silence was kept and prayers led by Rev Biddy Saunders. The Kohima Epitaph was spoken by Colonel R M L Colville TD DL JP, Vice Lord-Lieutenant, LeicestershireWhen you go home,Tell them of us and say For your tomorrow, we gave our today.
Barkby's Curate, Reverend Biddy Saunders was priested together her colleagues Crystal MacAllister and Paul Emberton on Saturday 2nd October 2021. The service took place in Syston Parish Church and was led by Bishop Martin. The location was quite unusual as these services generally take place in the cathedral. However as Leicester Cathedral is closed for renovations it was decided to take the services to three local parish churches. Due to Covid attendance was by ticket only and Covid restrictions applied regarding mask wearing and hand sanitising. Biddy recalled that throughout her life she always felt that God was at work blessing, enriching and preparing me for a life dedicated to those in need. She has been constantly reminded of God's faithfulness. Reverend Biddy wishes to thank everyone who has supported her in God's ministry. Reverend Biddy hopes to continue her work within the parish of Barkby together with the spiritual growth and discipleship of St Mary's Church
Although the Church was locked this does not mean we didn't remember the fallen. Whilst a short service was livestreamed from Syston Churchyard 11am Mr Pochin laid a wreath at Barkby Church. When you go home,Tell them of us and say For your tomorrow, we gave our today.
