A very warm to Saint Andrew the Apostle, Worthing,
Since its opening in 1888, St Andrew's has worshipped in the Catholic tradition of the Church of England. In the late 1800s, the very presence of "The Worthing Madonna" in the Lady chapel of St. Andrew's, caused riots on the streets of Worthing. Thankfully, life is now more harmonious. We still maintain our Catholic ethos using incense and colour in our worship of Almighty God. We use a wide range of hymns in our worship too, reflecting the breadth of the Anglican tradition.
The Church was designed by the noted Victorian architect, Sir Arthur Blomfield and is in a Gothic style. We have an excellent collection of vestments and banners – some designed by Sir Ninian Comper. The real joy in our church is the gloriously rich array of stained glass by Charles Kempe. Every window is filled with his work and this sheds a wonderful light into the building. The choir screen with its Rood Screen above, and the reredos behind the white marble high altar provide a splendid setting for the worship of Almighty God.
The entrance to the Church is off Clifton Road. Please note that, while building works are underway next door to the Church, pedestrians may gain access to the Church via Clifton Road, although cars will need to approach by Elizabeth Road. As always, you can access the church through the kissing gate off Victoria Road. Just follow the path around.
Sunday: Sung Parish Mass at 10:30am followed by coffee and chat.
Midweek: Tuesday, Mass at 10:30am; Friday, Mass at 10:30am.
The PARISH HALL is available for hire. It also provides a space for parish meetings and social gatherings.
