About Us
Faith, Hope and Love in the heart of Storrington.
St Mary's is the Church of England parish church for Storrington (and Cootham) in West Sussex. Whoever you are, you'll find a warm welcome at our services and activities. We believe that everyone is loved by God and is part of his family. Whatever your background, age, or life-story, we'll be glad to see you.
Our church is normally open during the day - many people use it - and the peaceful churchyard has beautiful views over the South Downs National Park. It's a great place to be, and a great place to be yourself.
Historic Church Building
Historically, there has been some form of Christian worship on this site for over a thousand years. There is some Saxon origin in the oldest part of the church building on the north side and over many years, the church building has steadily grown to meet the physical, practical, and liturgical needs of the congregation. At the beginning of the 20th century, the church was re-ordered and the vestries were expanded to meet the needs of new worship patterns and the recent introduction of a robed choir. Today, at the start of the 21st century, we now have a kitchen and accessible WCs with change room facilities. Our Church Council (PCC) typically meets eight times a year to ensure we have a church building in good order and a thriving community to pass on to future generations in the Storrington parish.
A Church Community
We are a family friendly church community that is committed to its local area here in Storrington, the wider Chichester diocese, and beyond. Caring for God's creation is a key part of St Mary's, we are committed to EcoChurch and have recently been awarded the bronze award.
We are a Eucharistic Community, regularly celebrating Holy Communion, where we encounter Christ and the transforming power of his love; living our faith joyfully in the world with faith, hope and love.
A Place to Grow
We believe everyone is loved by God and is part of his family. Whatever your background, age, ability, gender or sexuality, whatever your level of faith or doubt, whatever the story of your life, we’ll be glad to see you.
If you would like to explore the Christian faith and spirituality, or want to talk about something in confidence, please get in touch and our ministry team will be happy to listen.
There are groups that meet in the church or at
houses in the village to discuss and explore faith. There are also study groups during Lent, and
other opportunities for reflection and discussion during the year. We are an open-minded and inclusive church,
and we try to make St Mary’s a place where people are helped to question and
think about their faith for themselves.
We look forward to meeting you.
