Many will have noticed there was some scaffolding up at St Mary's earlier in May and unfortunately one of the Tours needed to be postponed - this was to enable some repair & restoration work to be done to the fabric of the church.Stonework repairs were identified in 2023 after the five-yearly inspection report by our architect and certain of those repairs were needing to be done within two years to maintain the fabric of the church. We were fortunate to be successful in our application to the National Churches Trust and the Wolfson Foundation and were awarded grants of £8,000 and £5,000 respectively, which enabled the necessary work both internally and externally to go ahead this year. While the scaffolding was up, we took advantage to inspect gutters and other areas not usually accessible and to do any other minor repairs. St Mary's is extremely grateful to the National Churches Trust and the Wolfson Foundation, whose grants allowed the work to go ahead.
