About Us
A Bit of Everything
We are an ancient village Church that also serves part of the town of Hailsham. We have varied congregations from town and country and with differing Christian backgrounds giving us a diverse richness. We worship in a fairly traditional Church of England style using a variety of music and liturgy. We have a strong choir and an emphasis on preaching and sacrament. We are growing and developing through the Lord's grace. Come and see!
The Church in a Ciric -
The only remaining example in the County of a Church built on a circular Saxon mound (Ciric or cirque - the Anglo-Saxon word related to kirk and circus). The body of the Church is mainly 14th century with some earlier features such as the 13th century transitional wall and windows in the Chancel and one pier by the Lady Chapel, the even earlier palmate string line on both sides of the chancel and the Early English work in the Lady Chapel. The Tower is 1830's.
A short but comprehensive history is available in the church. This is frequently udated - please send along any suggestions!
We are open - and friendly!
We are just off the Cuckoo Trail while the Wealden Way goes through our Churchyard.
The church is open for your use during daylight hours including a prayer corner, a library, children's activity tables and the small kitchen (sink but no cooker) and (disabled access) toilet. There is one step up into the Church,
We welcome all who seek the peace of this holy place for prayer or thought and also walkers, artists, photographers and other groups of visitors, We would be pleased to be given notice of group visits so we can help as much as possible. We have close neighbours, please respect them!
