About Us

St James The Great church is situated in Ewhurst Green, which is near Bodiam, in a beautiful part of East Sussex near to the Kent Border. Rye and Battle are within easy reach. The greater part of the fabric is 14th century with a south arcade and the greater part of the tower is from the 12th century.

We are located on the Kent/Sussex Border path and welcome visitors to the church. The building is open daily, and there is a chapel set aside for private prayer and reflection. We occasionally host concerts, and there is a regular 'Talk at St James' on a topical or cultural issue during the summer months.

We are a welcoming church and gather each Sunday for a sung Holy Communion. We seek to serve the local community, support a local food bank, and welcome enquiries about weddings, christenings (baptism) and funerals. Morning Prayer is said on Wednesdays and Thursdays in church at 8.30am.

The parish magazine, Ewhurst & Bodiam Parish News, is full of interest and information and is available in church, at the Castle Inn, Bodiam and at Staplecross Village Stores, price £1 or by subscription, £5 per year.  The magazine accepts advertising and editorial submissions, contact the editor Linda Stevens.  Details can be found on this website under "About the Parish".

We are currently relying on volunteer retired priests to take our services at the churches in our parish.
