Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence; from the Middle Ages it became the custom to begin the six weeks of Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross. Maundy Thursday 28th March 8.00 p.m. at St Peter Offham, The Drove, Offham, combined service. We remind ourselves of Jesus’ new commandment of love (mandatum novum, hence ‘Maundy’). Good Friday 29th March 11.00 a.m. All Saints Plumpton. We hear the account of Jesus’s death. The Easter Vigil Saturday 30th March 7.30 p.m. All Saints Plumpton combined service with St Peter Offham. The Easter Vigil is a drama of light and dark. The Pascal candle is lit from a new fire and everyone’s candles are lit. We hear the ‘Exsultet’ the ancient song of praise. We renew our baptismal vows and share the Eucharist. Easter Day Sunday 31st March 11.00 a.m. All Saints Plumpton Our service this morning is one of joy as we celebrate the overcoming of death through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our regular Sunday service is 11.00, you are most welcome to join us. On the fourth Sunday of the month – May to September we meet at East Chiltington church.
