Candlemas marks the mid-point between Christmas and Easter, and it is hopefully the beginning of the end of winter. We shall hear the story of the elderly Simeon and Anna, who had faithfully waited all their lives for the Messiah to be revealed to them. If you come - and I hope you will - please have a look at the depiction of Simeon and Anna in the lady chapel window, manufactured by the studio of Charles Eamer Kempe. A wheatsheaf, Kempe's maker's mark, is included in the window, but a black tower is superimposed over it, signifying that Kempe had died by the time of the commission and the business had passed into the ownership of his distant cousin, Walter Tower
