Ray of Hope Candles

Community_news

A very big thank you to all who brought used candles into the Church - they have now been delivered to Hove where  ‘Ray of Hope’, is based.  The charity is led by a group of Ukrainians who attend the Church and it supports Ukrainian people from the most deprived areas in Ukraine, with a basic comfort of light, hand warmers, and a hot drink.

The candles are melted down to make trench candles, as they burn for a longer time than usual candles. As well as providing a little light, the ‘new’ candles’ can be used to warm hands or even to heat up hot drinks or simple food.

After the breakage of the dam in Kherson, thousands of people were left without electricity for days and weeks. Ray of Hope supported many of these people by providing candles. The charity wants to continue to support people in Ukraine, when there are electricity blackouts. The candles have been transported to Ukraine with the help of other charities including Vans without Borders. There are no administration costs.

It sounds horrible that in this time in the 21st century we have war in Europe, but this is one way for us to support people in Ukraine. Thank you
