Getting here
Our What3Words address (by far the easiest way of finding us) is honeybees.gradually.toned
Our Postcode is TN19 7NA but some satnavs send you to the wrong part of the village.
Our street is either nameless (Royal Mail), Swingate Hill (Local Council), Ticehurst Road (the Diocese), Station Road (some directories), or Stonegate Road (ditto).
IGNORE YOUR SATNAV's instructions to go through Hook Green, Brightling and other small villages. At best you will get stuck for hours behind a 44 tonne articulated truck that's become jammed between the hedgerows whilst following the same instructions. At worst you will scratch your paintwork and lose your wing mirrors or find yourself up to your waist in flood water. Not following the SATNAV adds a couple of miles and no more than 2 minutes to the journey whilst knocking 20 points off your blood pressure and £00s off your insurance.
It's best to get onto the A265 that runs between Hurst Green and Cross-in-Hand, where it becomes the A267 to/from Tunbridge Wells.
From the East, go through Burwash, past or via Bateman's, into Burwash Weald. Up and down the hill then up the winding hill. DON'T follow your SATNAV down the narrow lane to your right unless you're on a scrambler bike. DO take the right turn at the brow of the hill signposted to the Station and Church.
From the West, pass through Heathfield and Broad Oak and after about 2 miles you come to the 50 limit signs and then a 40 sign. Take the left turn at the brow of the hill signposted to the Station and Church.
Go down the road and the Car Park is on your right just past the SLOW warning sign. Park at the far end and there's a cut through to the church. Please cross carefully.
Those with limited mobility can park at the church. If you have a small car without a wheelchair box on top then you can get through the church gates on your left as you go round the corner. If you have a wide or tall car, take the track signposted to the Masonic Hall and there are big gates on your left. If you don't have able-bodied support, please call us in advance and we'll open the gates for you.
By Train or Bus - there are regular buses from main towns to Heathfield and an occasional service from there to Burwash Common. We suggest using Google Maps or similar to find the current times. There are trains to Stonegate (3 miles) and Etchingham (5 miles). There are some buses from Etchingham; again, check Google Maps. There are no taxi ranks at these stations but there are taxi companies that serve the area.
By bike and train - The church is at the top of a long climb from Stonegate station and only the brave attempt the A265 from Etchingham. If you're fit or have a battery bike then Stonegate is the best option.
