St Edward's is a small and friendly church in the West of Burgess Hill. We offer a range of services, as well as running our community Cafe - the Mustard Seed (open on Thurs and Fri 10-2).
As a church we are an interesting mix! We value Scripture, Spirit and Sacrament. Some of our services include more traditional elements including incense, others are more informal with a band, and we always want to allow space for the Holy Spirit to move amongst us.
Since 2022 with the arrival of our vicar Rev Jules Middleton, we have been seeking to revitalise the church for a new era. This has meant reshaping our worship; working to be an eco church (we received the silver award in 2024) and hosting outdoor worship; growing relationships with families, schools and the younger generation; and being an 'Inclusive Church' in all elements of the word. For example: we are working on our accessibility, thinking about how we can be better welcoming to those who are neurodivergent, we are fully affirming of those in the LGBTQIA+ community, and we aiming to be a place where all can engage in worship no matter who they are. This is an ongoing process, we don't always get it right, but we'd love you to join us as we try.
Safeguarding
The parish of Burgess Hill: St Edward is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer. The Diocese of Chichester’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
