'Shakespeare in Song'

Saturday 2 November

St Andrew’s Church

Lyddington

7.30 pm

This year marks 460 years since the birth of Shakespeare. In honour of the occasion, the Harborough Singers return to one of their favourite venues − St Andrew’s Church, Lyddington − on Saturday 2nd November, to present an evening of glorious words and music inspired by ‘the Bard’. The programme will be wide, and possibly surprising. Alongside Shakespeare Song sets by Emma Lou Diemer, Charles Paterson and Vaughan Williams, the choir will perform a Choral Medley of Bernstein’s well-loved tunes from ‘West Side Story’. Works by modern composers Richard Allain (‘If Music be the Food of Love’) and Sarah Quartel (‘I know a bank where the wild thyme blows’) will add long, expressive melodies and evocative textures to the mix, while George Shearing’s ‘Seven Songs & Sonnets’ will draw the night to a Jazzy finish.

The concert starts at 7.30 pm

Tickets: £15 (£5 for under eighteens in full time education)
