Everybody is welcome at St Luke's, either in person or online, and on Sunday it's a special welcome as we celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight.
Fairtrade is the organisation that tries to ensure that farmers and suppliers in some of the poorest, most deprived areas of the world get a fair price for their produce and products. These farmers struggle to afford even the basics of education and health for their families; the drive for profits from western companies means they are paid as little as those companies can get away with. Fairtrade steps in to help those farmers and companies get a better balance so that farmers and their families can work for a better future for their children.
At 9.00 a.m. on Sunday 5th March, St Luke's Church Hall opens with free toast, pastries, tea and coffee for everyone. There will also be a Fairtrade stall with some produce for sale from Fairtrade sources.
Sometime between 9.30 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. (probably closer to 10.00 a.m. as we'll have some clearing-up to do!), we'll make our way into the church for a Fairtrade Fortnight service. We'll be able to worship the Lord, sing praise to God, pray for the future of Fairtrade and hear why we Christians should support it. In a short video, we will see and hear from some Fairtrade farmers whose families are being transformed by that little bit of extra money for their produce.
After the service, the church hall will be open again for refreshments and everyone to meet as friends old and new. You are welcome to attend at any time for all or part of the morning.
The service will be live streamed on Facebook, YouTube and our dedicated website at www.stlukestittensor.church. A recording will be available shortly afterwards on those sites and on these pages.
