The what3words app for smartphones, tablets and pcs has hit the headlines for helping the emergency services to find people who have become lost or to help deliveries to places that just don't have addresses.   Knowing three words in sequence can locate anywhere in the world right down to a 3 metre square.  Many rescue organisations are using the app and recommend that people should put it on their smartphones.  Already many lives have been saved.
