Regarding St. Luke’s Churchyard the judges said:
“The access to the churchyard is very good with all paths well maintained and litter free. Colourful planters at the entrances give a clear, colourful welcome. The very detailed and interesting information provided, both historical and environmental, enhances and enriches any visit to the churchyard. In addition to the main noticeboards, small signs are provided discretely around the churchyard. They include thoughtful quotes which encourage reflection and prayer. The graves are generally kept tidy and the area for the interment of ashes is carefully managed with a seat under the tree making it a nice area to rest. A few of the graves, including one of the war graves, had notes providing some specific details which add further interest for any visitor to the churchyard. There are clearly designated areas of long and short grass to support and encourage wildlife. The long grass along the boundaries and brambles etc by the hedges are also left giving further wildlife habitats. The wide variety of actions taken to promote wildlife are supported with records about some of the species that have been observed. Overall the churchyard continues to be a haven for wildlife and a delight for visitors. It is beautifully cared for- many thanks and congratulations to all those who continue to work hard and develop this special place.”
