Facilities and features
Accessibility
St John's is accessed via a no-through road just off the main road in Great Bolas, although there is a brown traffic sign indicating its location. There is parking for 2 cars only outside the main gate, but additional parking is available on the hard standing in the village between the bus stop and post box, only a short distance away.
On event-days, or large gatherings (such as weddings, funerals, etc), we are able to provide additional parking in a local farmer's yard just a few yards from the main entrance - sign posts will be provided.
We have a portable ramp to allow access into the church and a smaller ramp to allow access to the altar/chancel area.
Our Building
Our church is now open on a daily basis from 0900 until 1600 (approximately) on alternate weeks on a best endeavours basis. See our News page for further details.
The Church is a Grade II* Listed building - a short description is provided in the About Us section.
Music and Worship
We have 2 x bells in the Tower in working order.
This takes place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of each month. A Morning Prayers service is usually provided on the first Sunday of the month. On those months, where there is a 5th Sunday, a joint service is held in one of the 6 parishes on our benefice, which may mean that there may not be a service on that day at St Johns. Please refer to the List of Services page for further details.
Groups, Courses and Activities
Usually, every fortnight on a Friday at 1030, we hold a coffee morning in the church. Tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits are available for £2.50. Details of the dates and times can be found by looking at our "Coffee Mornings" page, but if you would like to check if one is taking place before leaving home, please contact Ray.
During the spring and summer months, a group of individuals from the PCC and local community help to keep the churchyard in good condition.
The group usually attends every second Tuesday. We have a won churchyard award for the last 3 years from the Lichfield Diocesan Churchyard scheme, with increasing success. If you would like to get involved, please contact Ray.
Help for Visitors
There are some laminated sheets in the porch, free of charge, although a small donation towards their production is always welcome.
See our Coffee Mornings section for further details.
