A Letter from Rev'd Vivienne

Even though there are lots of things happening during the month of February, I bet if you ask someone to name one, they will most likely say “Valentine’s Day”! I used to get very excited about it too, although my husband less so. He refused point blank to go out for a meal because of the “ludicrous prices” charged, so each year I would make a special meal at home. Not candle-lit however. I tried that early on in our marriage, only to have him turn on all the lights again as he “liked to see what he was eating”! I must admit I did sometimes go over the top, just to tease him! Now that I am a widow, all that fun has gone, but I have not given up on love.

I love to see love in all forms. I love to see people find “the one” and I particularly enjoy taking a wedding. And yes, I am a sucker for “Rom-Coms”!! Yes, romantic love can be intoxicating, but there are so many other forms of love, and I truly believe that life without love is a life not living.

So where do I see those other forms of love. I see it in the eyes of my family and in the laughter of friends, both those I see a lot, and those I see only once a year, when we seem to pick up from where we left off.

I see love in the face of the young stranger who offers me a seat on the train, and in the lady in the supermarket who tells me to go ahead of her because I only have a few items.

Love really does make the world go round. This is because love is truly divine. To quote from the first letter of John:

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. “ (1 John 4:7-8)

So, treasure all that love for it will bring you closer to God, because God’s love is always there for us. We are never without love if only we turn and feel his loving arms around us. He is there waiting for us to open the door and let him in.

So yes, I will still enjoy Valentine’s Day.

I might even send you a card!!

Happy Valentine’s Day

Blessings to all,               Vivienne
