The 'Battlefield window' features amazing medieval glazing originally from Battlefield Church. The church had an extensive scheme of glass including figures of locally popular saints such as Chad, George, Nicholas and John the Baptist. The glass dates from the mid-15th C and is an example of the late International Gothic Style. Excitingingly it is work of the celebrated glass painter John Thornton (who was responsible for the phenomenal Great East Window in York Minster). Thornton probably ran glass workshops in Coventry and York. Our glass almost certainly stems from the Coventry workshop. The glass and painted detail, and the surrounding stonework, are in very poor condition and require conservation work as a matter of urgency. We now have a Faculty allowing us to proceed with the work, unfortunately, overall this may take as much as £100,000 inc VAT! We have applied for some funds and are applying for more - but without us being able to put some of the funds into the pot we may not get any public funds to add to it! Please join us to find out how you can help - and what we hope to offer in return!
