TV FAME

On 26th June 2019, Andrew and Judy (Churchwardens) met with a small production team, including the director Waldemar Januszczuk, making a programme for the BBC, to be broadcast in the Autumn. The programme is called Handmade in Bolton and they are remaking historical objects from the past, one of them is an alabaster plaque. They had already been to Tutbury to look at the wonderful alabaster arch over the west door at St. Mary’s, Jane and Rick Nuth were their guides there. They had also been to British Gypsum at Fauld to see where alabaster was mined and to obtain a large piece for their project. At Hanbury they were primarily interested in the oldest monument n St. Werburgh’s Church, that of Sir John de Hanbury who is said to have died in 1303. If the tomb was made shortly after his death, it is the oldest alabaster tomb in Staffordshire. They were interested too in several of our other tombs but unfortunately didn’t have sufficient time to film them all. It will be interesting to see two of our local churches featuring in a TV programme.
