What time does church start?
10am on a Sunday. The service lasts for about an hour followed by a cuppa where people get to know one another or catch up on news.
Where is the church?
5, Wallshead Way, Church Aston, Newport, Shropshire, TF10 9JG
Is it accessible to wheelchair users?
There is level access into church through the gate opposite "The Close". Inside the church there is only level access with space in the main body of the church and at the front or back of church for wheelchair users. Holy Communion is distributed on the level, as well as brought to those who need to remain seated.
What about hearing loop and large print words?
We have congregation members who use hearing aids and make good use of our loop. We also have large print service sheets, as well as easy-read type on a large screen during all our services. Large print readings to take home are also readily available to those who want them.
We are a Dementia-Friendly church
Some of us have recently become Dementia Friends so that we can welcome and support anyone living with dementia, and their carers and families. This is a welcoming church family where people are free to come as they are. If you need additional support during a service, please don't hesitate to ask.
What should I wear?
We have a real mixture from people who dress casually to people who love to dress up. Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.
Where can I park?
There is a car park next to church.
What should I expect?
Expect a warm welcome from lots of people of different cultures and backgrounds.
What happens during a service?
A big part of all our services is music. We sing a mixture of traditional hymns, newer songs, and enjoy a variety of instruments to accompany us. We have an organist and a music group.
Most Sunday mornings we have a fairly traditional service of Holy Communion (sometimes called Eucharist) where all are invited to receive the bread and wine which is central to our church life as one of the ways to draw close to God and be spiritually fed. This service is open to everyone, whether you are regular church goer or a visitor; aged 0-100! You are welcome to sit at the back and join in with the bits you are comfortable with. No-one will judge you!
We also say prayers, offering to God those in our hearts in need of hope, healing and strength. Anyone can light a candle, or place a note in our prayer box requesting prayers or a visit during the week.
What about my kids?
We are an "All Age" congregation which means that children are especially welcome! There is an area at the back of church with toys and crafts, and volunteers to enjoy playing! Don't worry about trying to keep the children sitting still and silent - it's really not necessary! It's such a friendly community church.
Messy Church is held in St Andrew’s Church Hall on the second Sunday of every month (except August) from 3-5pm. If you would like to join our St Andrew’s Messy Church Facebook group, please message us via our Church Aston St Andrews Facebook page.
