Getting here
At the heart of a small Staffordshire village high in the White Peak between the River Dove and the River Manifold, the Church of St Margaret's Wetton is an unassuming place of worship which has served our community since at least the 14th century.
Only the tower remains of whatever was the 14th century Church. There was a Great Fire in 1820 which destroyed everything else; but the nave was re-built straightaway. Look at our photo gallery: some of you might think the inside of the Church lacking in grand design; but we think of it as somewhere that the village can feel at home. We think of the generations who have come to the Church to mark the milestones of their lives; or in despair or in joy; or simply to thank God for his goodness at the seasons of the year.
Still today our mission statement is "In the community, for the community, with the community".
And remember that "community" embraces everyone who stays in our village for a holiday (or anywhere near enough to visit) - and of course visiting walkers or others passing through.
Our Church is also a quiet place to be - and open daily from 9am to late afternoon/early evening. Some thank God in the Church on their own; some seek solace; and some - possibly walkers sheltering from the rain - find an unexpected tranquillity. Our Church is yours.
Come along to our services (but do check them out under events as services change from month to month; or, if you're in the village, look at the notice board in the Church porch). We don't mind muddy boots - we do like dogs - and you can park bicycles in Church.
We have different services from month to month - so please do look under "events" for details of services at Wetton in the current month.
And please do follow contact details to get in touch with the Churchwardens. We'll do everything we can to help you.
