A challenge for Croxton in 2024
A challenge for Croxton in 2024
As a benefice, in 2023 we completed the first part of an Emmaus course which provides a vision for evangelism, nurture, and growth in the local Church. It is designed to welcome new people into the life of the Church as well as to strengthen the Christian faith of long-established members. So, it is rooted in a traditional understanding of evangelism and discipleship modeled on the example of Jesus of Nazareth as portrayed in the story of the Emmaus Road. (Luke 24.28-35) On that road, Jesus was made known in the breaking of bread. He may well have sung some songs on the way and attended the Jewish equivalent of a Coffee Morning. But it was in the breaking of bread that his disciples recognized him. So let us resolve in 2024 to spend more time with Jesus and in the service of our community. This will mean regular attendance at the monthly Communion service that takes place after the Songs of Praise to be equipped and nourished to go back into the world. This is a challenge to affirm our membership of the Church of England. I want to put the word Eucharist back on the agenda here at Croxton as we seek to be the body of Christ in this village.
