Welcome to our benefice
Benefice:
This is a name given to a group of parishes or churches working together. CHW Churches is the benefice of Colnbrook, Horton and Wraysbury
Benefice / joint / combined service:
This service happens when all the churches in the benefice come together for one service. It generally occurs on the 5th Sunday of the month and is usually the only communion service that day.
Family / all age service:
Despite the name you are welcome to these services whatever your age and with or without a family. It won’t have Communion as well unless the service says so.
This is an interactive service for all ages, and is particularly suited to anyone exploring faith or for those with young families or considering baptisms. These services don’t usually include communion unless stated otherwise. These services occur at different churches on specific Sundays:
First Sunday: Wraysbury
Second Sunday: Horton
Third Sunday: Colnbrook
Everyone is welcome at any service, anywhere in the Benefice.
Communion:
Communion is the sharing of bread and wine – a significant part of Christian life from the earliest days. It is called by all of these names: Eucharist (from the Greek for ‘thanksgiving’), Mass (from the Latin for ‘Go home, we’ve finished’) and the Lord’s Supper.
Church of England practice is that communion is open to those who are baptised and have prepared for communion (often through confirmation) and ‘any who are in good standing’ in their own Christian tradition – which means if you would share communion in other churches you belong to you are welcome to do so with us.
If you are unable to approach the altar please remain in your seat and communion will be brought to you
Gluten free / Alcohol free:
We always try to have gluten free wafers available for communion but, at present, we do not offer a non-alcoholic alternative to communion wine. If possible please let the vicar or sidespeople know if you require gluten free wafer
Blessing:
Anyone who would like to receive a blessing but not share the bread and wine is able to do so. Please approach the altar and cross your hands over your chest to request a blessing
