Sunday 11th August 2024

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been exploring what it means to welcome the stranger and ‘widen the circle’ of our hearts. As we have seen, Jesus’ teachings were sometimes met with great resistance–not just from the crowds–but from within the circle of his own disciples too. During a week of violence and civil unrest that has gripped the country, it has become all too easy to point fingers, ascribe blame, and allow anger to rise. Yet rather than letting ourselves be swept away by the torrents of unrest, let us look to Christ and his Word. This week’s New Testament scripture from Ephesians offers timely instruction, encouragement, and hope, as we navigate the waters that are swirling around us. We gather this Sunday in confidence and hope of the one who reconciles all things to himself and grants us peace.

Every blessing, Mark
