Sunday 21st July 2024

Last week, we examined the demands of discipleship through the lens of our Gospel passage. This week’s New Testament lectionary reading digs deeper into discipleship, and asks us to consider what it looks like for disciples to live together in unity. In a community where we all have different opinions, preferences, hopes, etc—how do we move forwards whilst staying together? Our passage provides a clue, describing Jesus as our “chief cornerstone.” Reading this, I decided to take a peek at St. John’s foundation stone that is situated beneath the altar, which begins with the words, “The Foundation Stone of this church dedicated to the glory of God…” As we continue to explore challenging questions of discipleship, let us remember that we are ultimately called to give God the glory. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.
