Owston: St Andrew
Welcome to our Parish Church which sits within the small village of Owston and lies 5 miles west of Oakham. The church of St Andrew, Owston, began as an Augustinian monastic foundation before 1161, and substantial buildings stood around the site of the current church. Owston Abbey was dissolved at the reformation. The parish retained a part of the Abbey Church for its use when the rest was demolished, resulting in an unusually proportioned building, with its doorway through the tower on the south side.
We are one of the grouping of 5 churches that form the Whatborough Parishes Benefice located to the east of Leicester, close to the border of Leicestershire with the small county of Rutland.
