Maundy Thursday is the day when we remember Jesus sharing the Last Supper with his disciples before his death.

Maundy Thursday gets its name from the Latin word mandare meaning to command. We remember Jesus' command: 'Love one another as I have loved you'.

At the Last Supper, Jesus washed the disciples' feet. Some churches recreate this act of service at special services and events. This is not only an important reminder of the nature of Jesus, who we serve, but also the kind of service we are meant to demonstrate in our love for one another.

There will be a contemplative service with readings taking place at St Mary's at 7pm.

Wargrave St Mary's

St Mary's is located in the heart of the large village of Wargrave and is beautifully situated beside Mill Green. It is the oldest (parts dating back to the 12th Century) and biggest of the three Churches in the Parish.

Our vision at St Mary’s is to be a church at the heart of our community, and our hope is that every Christian will be empowered at St Mary’s to flourish in ministry for the good of the whole community.

There are two services each Sunday: 8am and 9.45am, as well as Junior Church (0-3 years Crèche, 3-16 years Junior Church)

Close by, The Hannen Room and St Mary's Church Centre are within the churchyard for use throughout the year.

Safeguarding

Our Parish of Wargrave with Knowl Hill is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Oxford’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO.

If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO Sue Witney (details found at the link below) or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor Charlotte Wilmshurst: 07443 700159. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
