On Saturday afternoon the 27th November St Mary's Church went ahead with a Community Christmas Wreath-making Workshop in spite of the village of Hutton Magna being without power for 21 hours from 11.30pm on Friday night. Most mobile phone coverage to the village was, and is, still affected so communication to the outside world became almost impossible. Trees were down and the A66 major trans-Pennine route, which gives access to the village, was closed.
In spite of this, community spirit was in good supply and the wreath making workshop went ahead by camping lamplight and participants well wrapped up in jumpers and coats. Advent began this weekend and thoughts are turning to preparations for Christmas. Greenery gathered from the local lanes and residents gardens was turned into beautiful Christmas wreaths to decorate the doors of villagers under the watchful eye of church warden, Mrs Marian Lewis, a skilled flower arranger and member of Dalton Flower Club.
£100 pounds raised for church funds.
