Getting positives out of cancer!

Church Treasurer, David Bottoms, was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and has been through two rounds of surgery, three rounds of radiotherapy and a year long course of a targeted therapy drug. This is his continuing story.

"During the last four years I became treasurer for Hutton Magna St Mary's and,  having had to retire from my work as a project manager, I have found great satisfaction in starting a project to fund badly needed repairs to our beautiful old church. It has kept me occupied and focussed on doing something positive for our small local community. The importance of a community ethos has been emphasised by the COVID pandemic"

David has used the love and support from friends, family and the local community to embark on a personal fundraising campaign. This is his message to them.

"My Cancer is on the march again and I am about to embark on a 4 month programme of Chemotherapy which will be no fun for me and my wife... but up for the fight…starts Monday 22nd November.

Quirky request – would love something good to come out of this and was wanting to fund raise for something important to me and the family – our local village church badly needs some re-roofing and I’ve been battling to get some of the £40K funding together. Wondered if you have a few quid spare if you would sponsor my chemotherapy  (sounds weird!) – would like to try and raise £1,000 if I can – any donations to my fund-raising page https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/chemotherapy-sponsorship--church-roof-fund  would be much appreciated. No worries if you prefer not to/ cant afford to….Wish me luck...
