On Palm Sunday, just as the crowds did all those centuries ago, we join Christians around the world in marking Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem with a joyful procession and waving palm crosses.

We are very sorry to report that Basil, the lovely Shetland pony who was to lead our procession up to and around the church tomorrow has got laminitis, a serious and nasty condition in his hooves, so will sadly be unable to join us. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
We are still going ahead, because processions are cool, but we will do things slightly differently. There are two IMPORTANT alterations:

Firstly, we WON'T be processing from the Chequers; just come to St. Helen's Church AT 11 AM.
Secondly, we will need a helper on the day...

We will be asking one of the children who would enjoy it to wear our donkey ears and tail. Just like with a real donkey/pony/ponkey, we hope they don’t bite or kick, but we won’t give them a big bag of carrots!

A family-friendly service of Holy Communion will be held after the procession, lasting for about an hour.

There is no service at St Helen's this Sunday.

A Benefice Service of Holy Communion will be held at St Mary's Church, Chalgrove, starting at 9h30

Our next St Helen's service will be the Family Service on 4th January 2026 - Epiphany Sunday (Wise Men theme).

Thanks...

Thank you to everyone supporting the Christmas Day service, the Carol Service and the Walking Nativity. And congratulations to the ponkey, the candle lighters, the decorators, and the choir singing John's outstanding new carol!

Walking Nativity - Saturday 20 December 2025

Thank YOU to everyone who came! It's so great to have such wonderful support.

Special thanks to all who helped organise and do stuff and to our star turn, Basil Bagel Burger the ponkey (sic), our hilarious thespian innkeeper at the pub and of course Kirsty and Michael for the wonderful costumes and activity👏🌲🫏

Berrick & Roke Christmas Fair 2025

The Christmas Fair raised a magnificent £2765.60 towards maintaining and running our beautiful historic village church.

A massive 'Thank You' to everybody who came, and to those who cooked, served, poured, decorated, set trails, sold, operated competitions and so generously allocated an enormous amount of energy and expertise.

And a particular thanks to the terrific village children who got stuck in with running events, Christingles, and competitions.

What a wonderful village we live in – such bonhomie…

No wonder Santa and his Elf were delighted to fit Berrick into their very busy schedule!
