Lichfield: St John's Hospital Chapel

Hello!  My name is Reverend Sharon Greensmith, Master of St John’s Lichfield. Thank you for taking a look at who we are and what we spiritually offer at St John's Chapel, Lichfield.

The chapel of St John the Baptist is central to the life of the St John’s community. It is the oldest part of our foundation and, except for a time in the 17th century when it was in a ruinous state, has been used as a place of worship and hospitality since 1135. The Chapel is open to the public and I would like to invite you to come and join us in prayer and public worship. The tradition of St John’s Chapel is one of central liberal catholic tradition, whose liturgy is governed by the Church of England’s Canon Law and doctrine.

Come and see the wonderful interior of the Chapel that includes a shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the north aisle in the style of Italian ceramicist Luca della Robbia, 14 Stations of the Cross, a fine organ designed in 1972 by Hill, Norman and Beard, and most notably the stained glass East Window which was the last major undertaking of John Piper. There are many other features in and around the Chapel to enjoy.

There are regular services in the Chapel to which all members of the public, as well as St John's community, are equally welcome to attend. So do come and join us, and encounter the Grace and Love of God in this place.
