On Wednesday 01 November @ 8pm, St James’ Presents Harry Baker (bar opens @ 7pm) World Poetry Slam Champion Harry Baker (pictured) is a poet and a maths graduate. He writes about important stuff like hope, dinosaurs, and German falafel-spoons. His work has been shared on TED.com and viewed millions of times worldwide, as well as being translated into over 20 different languages. When there’s not a global pandemic on, he performs all over the country and has really, really missed live gigs. His latest collection ‘Unashamed’ was published with Burning Eye in 2022 and he has been sharing poems from it at every available opportunity ever since. On Thursday 02 November @ 8pm, St James’ Presents Granny’s Attic(bar opens @ 7pm) With exceptional musicianship and boundless energy, Granny’s Attic are much loved by audiences up and down the country, with bookings everywhere from Cambridge Folk Festival to Cecil Sharp House. Described by Folk Radio as “one of the most exciting and accomplished English folk acts on the scene right now”, this outstanding trio can hold audiences in the palm of their hand.On Friday 03 November @ 3pm, St James’ Presents a Movie MatineeSt James is delighted to present an afternoon screening of The Prince of Egypt. Tickets for this event are now FREE OF CHARGE.In this academy award winning animated retelling of the Book of Exodus, Egyptian Prince Moses (Val Kilmer), upon discovering his roots as a Jewish slave, embarks on a quest to free his people from bondage. When his plea is denied by his brother Rameses (Ralph Fiennes), the new pharaoh, a series of horrific plagues strike Egypt. Moses finally leads the Israelites to freedom by parting the Red Sea.There will be an opportunity to purchase movie snacks from our tuck shop.On Friday 03 November @ 7pm, St James’ Presents a Night at the MoviesSt James is delighted to present an evening screening of The Way.An American father travels to France to retrieve the body of his estranged son, who died while attempting the pilgrimage to Spain's Santiago de Compostela. He resolves to take the journey himself, in an effort to understand both himself and his son. There will be an opportunity to purchase movie snacks from our tuck shop.
"Our Father in heaven ..."Many will be familiar with these opening words to the Lord’s Prayer – the prayer that Jesus taught his friends to say. The people at St James’ have been praying for the community of Woodside for 175 years. If there is someone or something you would like us to pray for, why not get in touch. You can send prayer requests here.For the last few years we have joined with Christians across the world to pray, 'Thy Kingdom Come' at the end of the Easter season - between the Feast of Ascension and Pentecost - which this year is between 18 and 28 May.This is how we’ll be joining in with Thy Kingdom Come at St James’ this year:Saturday 13 May: members of the PCC will prayer walk around the parish and deliver cards assuring people that the people of St James’ have been praying for them for 175 years and will continue to do so.Thursday 18 May: Our Ascension Day service of Holy Communion marks the start of Thy Kingdom Come. Prayer stations will be erected in church to be used during the 10 days between Ascension and Pentecost. The stations will include those for St James, the Horsforth Shed, our town, climate justice and peace. We’ll also be erecting a ‘Say one for me’ board in the Parish Centre foyer and inviting churchyard and centre users to share their prayers with us.Sunday 21 May: the church will be open during the day until 18.00, so that people can use the prayer stations.Monday 22 May: starting with Morning Prayer at 8.45, the church will be open during the day until 18.00, so that people can use the prayer stations.Wednesday 24 May, 19.00 to 20.00: Thy Kingdom Come prayer meeting in church.Sunday 28 May, 10.30: Our Pentecost service of Holy Communion marks the end of Thy Kingdom Come.
