"Our Father in heaven ..."
Many will be familiar with these opening words to the Lord’s Prayer – the prayer that Jesus taught his friends to say. The people at St James’ have been praying for the community of Woodside for 175 years.
If there is someone or something you would like us to pray for, why not get in touch. You can send prayer requests here.
For the last few years we have joined with Christians across the world to pray, 'Thy Kingdom Come' at the end of the Easter season - between the Feast of Ascension and Pentecost - which this year is between 18 and 28 May.
This is how we’ll be joining in with Thy Kingdom Come at St James’ this year:
Saturday 13 May: members of the PCC will prayer walk around the parish and deliver cards assuring people that the people of St James’ have been praying for them for 175 years and will continue to do so.
Thursday 18 May: Our Ascension Day service of Holy Communion marks the start of Thy Kingdom Come. Prayer stations will be erected in church to be used during the 10 days between Ascension and Pentecost. The stations will include those for St James, the Horsforth Shed, our town, climate justice and peace. We’ll also be erecting a ‘Say one for me’ board in the Parish Centre foyer and inviting churchyard and centre users to share their prayers with us.
Sunday 21 May: the church will be open during the day until 18.00, so that people can use the prayer stations.
Monday 22 May: starting with Morning Prayer at 8.45, the church will be open during the day until 18.00, so that people can use the prayer stations.
Wednesday 24 May, 19.00 to 20.00: Thy Kingdom Come prayer meeting in church.
Sunday 28 May, 10.30: Our Pentecost service of Holy Communion marks the end of Thy Kingdom Come.
