Suitable for all ages, but great for children. We start at 4.00 pm with a drink and a biscuit. Next, we explore a Bible story with some activities, and finally we end with an informal act of worship in the church.

Choral Evensong at St Mary’s Whitkirk takes place on the first Sunday of the month at 6.00 pm. The service includes three hymns, two lessons (readings) from the bible, a sermon and prayers. As well as the three hymns, the choristers also sing a psalm, an anthem and the evening canticles known as the Magnificat and the Nunc Dimittis.

The ancient office of Compline, also known as Night Prayer, derives its name from the Latin word ‘completorium’ meaning ‘completion’ and is a short service of quiet contemplation for the end of the day.

It begins with a devotional address and is followed at by the office of Compline, a twenty-minute service containing a mix of prayers, music and silence. The hymn, psalm, canticle and responses are sung to plainchant led by members of St Mary’s Church Choir.
