We were pleased to support students at Leeds Beckett University who spent two days filming inside and outside church as part of a final year production. They were joined by actors and extras, including some volunteers from Methley. It was a busy two days, including lots of equipment, moving things around and props designed to create a church at the turn of the century. 26/2/24
After Rev Sarah's nearly 10 years among us you will surely have come across her. Maybe at a Christingle service, through school, at a baptism, wedding or funeral? Maybe out walking with her partner Rev Anthea and their scrawny but much loved mongrel Taffy. They leave us this week for their new jobs in Bristol, so now is the time to say farewell. Join us this Sunday at 11.00 in St Oswald's Church or pop into Methley Working Men's Club on Pinfold Lane tonight (Thursday)from 7.30 to drink a toast to her. All are welcome.
Our churchwardens Peter and Stuart have been waiting for better weather to bring our Christmas star down from the tower, known locally as the Star of Methleyhem, it shone brightly over the village through Advent and Christmas. 10/2/24
The Church of England are working to address the global eco crisis. One of the topics for the forthcoming General Synod meeting later this month is looking at how the land that the church has can be used for the benefit of the planet. Some of the recommendations for parishes are things we have already implemented in Methley such as no mow regimes, planting for biodiversity, bird and bat boxes. We have ongoing work with a local hedgehog group to explore ways of encouraging them in the churchyard.
