In Methley each year we start Advent with the raising of our star, made locally by a member of the congregation Jack Wright. Too big to fit up the narrow stairs we haul it up the side of the tower and carefully clamp it to the flagpole ready for Advent Sunday. We don’t know where the name came from but a local called it the Star of Methleyhem and the name has stuck.
