The legend to the photo also says that a breaking ground ceremony was held on August 13, 1932. The foundation stone was laid by the Princess Royal (Countess of Harewood) in October of the same year. There are several other old photos of Osmonthorpe in the collection if you want to have a look. It was particulalry interesting to see the tram lines and tram under the Selby Road bridge.
