About Us
Hipswell Parish covers the town of Colburn, and the villages of Hipswell and Scotton - surrounding Catterick Garrison on three sides - and includes a population of some 17,000 people. There are two church buildings: the fine Regency-period Parish Church of St John the Evangelist, Hipswell, and a lovely 1950s copper-roofed estate church, St Cuthbert's, Colburn. Weekly Sunday services at St Cuthbert's are generally at 11am.
St Cuthbert's aims to be a loving, welcoming church, open to the wider community, with relaxed liturgy and a family-friendly atmosphere. We are actively involved in the life of the local community and supportive of Colburn County Primary School. We run a weekly all-age Drop-in on Wednesday mornings, 9-11.30am, in the adjacent St Cuthbert's Community Hall, and a Tuesday night 'Mid-week Fellowship', 7-8.30pm. This is also the venue for our Veterans' Art Group, on Mondays 2.15-4.15pm, open to military veterans, currently serving personnel, and reservists, and their families. The Hall is currently being significantly refurbished, and is available for regular rental or one-off events by inidividuals, community groups and others.
