Colburn: St Cuthbert
"The parish of Hipswell: St Cuthbert's, Colburn is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults (see: https://www.hipswellparish.org.uk/). We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer, PSO Marie Smalley (M: 07852 156134). The Diocese of Leeds’s safeguarding pages (https://www.leeds.anglican.org/safe) contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services."
St Cuthbert's, Colburn, a copper-roofed estate church, was built for residents the new 1950s development. Along with its busy, recently-refurbished Community Hall, it houses a thriving & welcoming congregation. Our aim is always to be, 'A warm and welcoming church, open to the wider community, confident in Jesus' love and presence'. During recent years, the congregation of St Cuthbert's has grown considerably, embracing a series of new approaches. We are loosely New Wine affiliated, have completed our third Alpha, and are passionate about introducing local people to Jesus. The lay volunteer team is growing, with regular prayer - and prayer ministry - increasingly important to us. Our monthly, lay-led evening Praise & Worship services, following a break for Covid-19 re-started in March 2022. Our Fortnightly 'Wellbeing Cafe' (alternate Mondays 10am - 12 noon) welcomes adults of all backgrounds, and provides a safe, warm, space to meet others, enjoy Fairtrade refreshments, and to make new friends. Our Veterans' and Community Art Group (Tuesdays 10am - 12noon) has been running for seven years, and is a well-led & welcoming group. We love to engage with our local community, and our annual free Big Family Fun Days are well appreciated locally. Our recently-refurbished St Cuthbert's Community Hall provides a welcoming venue which is well used by community groups and individuals alike.
