St James the Great, Haydock

Welcome to St James', the Church of England Parish Church for the eastern parts end of Haydock [part of the Borough of St Helens].

Haydock, originally a mining village, lies about half-way between Liverpool and Manchester, close to the intersection of the M6 motorway and the A580 East Lancashire Road. The church is quite easy to find: it's on the main road through Haydock itself, about half a mile east of the local Tesco store.

At the heart of what we do, and the sustainment of our common life, is the Holy Eucharist, the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ: where all are called into God's love and His reconciling work.

The Eucharist [also called the Mass] is celebrated here not only on Sundays but also during the week. We are under the episcopal care of the Bishop of Beverley. You can find details of our regular Services and meetings by clicking here. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome at St. James' - we look forward to seeing you!

If you click here you'll be taken to a page where you can see various news items and download our Pew Sheet notices. Check our new Facebook page St James's Church Haydock, at: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085459283837.

We have - right next door to our Church, on Lyme Street - our own excellent CofE Primary School, St James', with which we have long had close ties. We "pray hard and play hard". The school is an integral part of our parish life: Our calling is to let this life extend wide and deep into the community.

Baptisms [also called christenings] are celebrated at St. James's on most Sundays at 12.15pm: it is always a pleasure to bring new people - old as well as young - through the reconciling arms of Jesus into the Father's loving embrace.

St James's church lives out the fulness of the Catholic Faith as the Church of England has received and nurtured it. We have done so since our building's consecration in 1866, and in the early days people travelled by train to take part in worship here. Our story of determination, commitment and struggle is available as a download - click here for details.

The parish of St James' Haydock is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Liverpool’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm, please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
