St James the Great, Haydock

Getting here

St James' is the Church of England parish church at the east end of Haydock, part of the Borough of St Helens. Haydock lies about half way between Liverpool and Manchester, close to the intersection of the M6 motorway and the A580 East Lancashire Road.

From Liverpool - To avoid driving through built up areas ignore the first signs for Haydock and continue on the A580 until you see an ASDA filling station, a Little Chef and a Travel Lodge on your right. Take the slip road left onto Millfield Lane, signposted for the Hotel and Haydock Industrial Estates. At the roundabout take the first exit onto Piele Road. This takes you back underneath the A580. At the next roundabout take the first exit to continue on Piele Road. At the traffic lights, turn left. The car park is almost immediately on your right.

From the M6 Motorway - Leave the M6 at Junction 23. At the roundabout take exit marked A580, Liverpool direction. Continue forward for about 1 mile. On the left you will see a Travel Lodge, a Little Chef and a petrol station. Turn left here onto Piele Road. You will pass a pub/restaurant called the Lymewood Farm on the right. At the roundabout take the second exit and go straight on. You'll come to a T junction with traffic lights: turn left. The church is almost immediately on your right.
