Facilities and features
Accessibility
These are located within the parish centre which is attached to the church, on the left hand side. There is a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities and two unisex toilets.
Located in the church centre which is attached to the church (see above).
St. Denys has a large car park opposite the church. It's entrance is on a slight bend opposite the footpath which leads to the main front door of the building. Park either directly ahead upon entry, or through the open chains to your left or right. Please take care when exiting by foot to cross the road as it can be busy with traffic and there isn't a pavement immediately available.
Two toilets and a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities are available for use within the parish centre, attached to the church.
Wheelchair access is easiest through the glass door leading into the parish centre on the south side of the building. The pathway is flat at this entrance.
Switch your hearing aid to position 'T' to hear clearly. All services are conducted with the hearing loop switched on.
Large print copies of the weekly bulletin are available in church every Sunday. If attending services, large print copies of the service booklets can also be made available.
We welcome people in to the church who have Assistance Dogs.
Our Building
Every Thursday morning, 9.30am - 12 noon, the church is 'Open' to the public for private prayer, free wifi use, refreshments and chat. At 9am, Morning Prayer is said and at 10am, (Book of Common Prayer) Holy Communion (said) takes place. All welcome.
Grade 2 listed. In 2019 we celebrated our 800th anniversary.
We are working towards achieving Eco church status currently.
Music and Worship
The bells are rung for special services and some special events. More bell ringers are needed!
In 2022, we launched a brand new Music Festival featuring different types of music on Saturdays throughout September and October. We are doing so again in 2023 and hope this will continue regularly.
The organ is a two manual digital Makin Thirlmere with stop tabs and full concave pedal board. The console is situated facing south towards the pulpit to the left of the chancel steps as you face east. The sound comes through two large speakers situated high in the west end above the bell tower, either side of the pipes retained from the former pipe organ. It is played during most Sunday services and for weddings and funerals.
Currently, a freelance organist who has been playing regularly at St. Denys for over a decade, is our main organist. On occasions when he isn't able to play, we ask two other members of the congregation or employ other local organists who are available.
We use the Book of Common Prayer for Thursday morning Holy Communion services at 10am (said). Our Matins services held on the first Sunday in every month, at 10am, are also based on the Book of Common Prayer.
We have just re-started a small choir who at the moment, lead the singing of the hymns during the morning service including a hymn or two during the distribution of Communion.
