About Us
A grand 'wool' church (Listed Grade 1) with a magnificent 15th century tower and a friendly congregation using modern English services and a variety of music. There was a big pottery industry here for several centuries, exporting Grimstonware all over Europe, so maybe St.Botolph's is a pottery church as much as a wool church., and the Western half of the parish is called Pott Row.
Several members of the Thorowgood (or Thoroughgood) family were Rectors here and the youngest son of one of them, Adam Thorowgood, baptised here in 1604, sailed to Virginia in the early days and made a big name for himself, naming the city of Norfolk after his home county. and his family home in Virginia Beach is a namtional monument.
