A group of people waved the bells off to Loughborough on 11th November following an exciting week when a wonderful team of volunteers helped Andrew, from Taylors Bell Foundry, to lower the bells. An impromptu open evening the night before enabled many people to see and touch the bells while they were on display in the base of the tower. The five bells are now at Taylors in Loughborough where they will be repaired and eventually returned to us. Four of the bells were made in 1698 and are listed as being of great historic importance. Sadly, they are too badly out of tune, too old and the metal is too thin, to risk full re-tuning. We have therefore been advised to re-hang them for stationary chiming only. Eventually they will ring out again across the parish with their unique St Sampson's tone.
But we do need money to bring them back! It will cost another £25,000 for the bells to be repaired, brought back and rehung in the tower. If you can help, see our giving page on the left. Every little helps. Thank you.
