By popular demand we held a second Medieval Barrow Push and Fete on 24th June. The Barrow Push, from Callington to South Hill, commemorates the walk the people of Callington had to make to bury their dead at St Sampson’s, before St Mary’s church was built in Callington in the 15th century. The Callington Town Crier started the event off at St Mary’s and the Portreeve of Callington presented us with two candles, the annual payment to be made to the mother church of South Hill by the daughter church of St Mary’s. Assorted monks, barrow pushers and a knight walked to St Sampson’s where a traditional fete was held in the churchyard. Music was provideed by the wonderful musicians of Launceston Town Band, miniature donkeys came to visit and various traditional games were played by children and adults. There was a barbecue, an ice cream van, a beer tent and tea and cake plus lots of stalls. Many thanks to all involved.
